Art Deco Silver Mustard Pot, Chester, 1937

This is a good quality George VI Art Deco Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original blue glass liner. Basically oval in shape it has line decoration around both the top and bottom rims. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The mustard pot is made by Stokes & Ireland of Birmingham and assayed in Chester in 1937. William Stokes & Arthur Ireland began their partnership in 1872 before becoming a limited company 20 years later. They became a subsidiary of S. Blanckensee & Son in 1925 but retained their own identity up until 1939. Like many Birmingham makers they would send some of their smaller items to Chester to be assayed.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents to the silver and no chips or cracks in the blue glass liner. There is just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected in an item of this age and use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 8cm / 3.1ins from rim to handle, 3.6cm / 1.4ins across and stands 5.9cm / 2.3ins high. Without the blue glass liner it weighs in at a substantial 60g / 2.1oz of solid Sterling Silver. With the glass liner inside it weighs 99.3g / 3.5oz.
The hallmarks on the underside of the base are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword & three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter M for 1937 and the S & I makers' mark for Stokes & Ireland.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
