Art Deco Silver Napkin Ring, Birmingham, 1945
This is a stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Napkin Ring from the mid 1940s. The circular ring has a zigzag engine turned pattern all around the body with a blank rectangluar cartouche at the front.
The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by Kenart Ltd and dates to 1945. The firm was founded by James Kenworthy in Ashton-under-Lyme, Lancashire in the 1890s but relocated to Birmingham in the early 1930s. They made a small range of silver tableware but are best known for their animal shaped brooches. The company remained in business into the 1960s.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.3cm / 1.7ins in diameter and 2.8cm / 1.1ins deep. It weighs in at a respectable 25.2g / 0.89oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the outside bottom rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter V for 1945 and the K.Ltd makers' mark for Kenart Ltd.
