Art Deco Silver Sauce Boat, Charles Weale, 1930

Here we have a wonderfully stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Sauce Boat. The sauce boat sits on an oval raised foot with line decoration and has a long sweeping body giving it a real sense of elegance. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind making this ideal as a gift or simply to grace any dining table.
The sauce boat was made in Birmingham by silversmith Charles Weale and dates to the height of the Art Deco era in 1930. Charles Weale founded his firm in Hockley Street, in the heart of Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter, around 1902. He made small runs of items with a focus on design and deserves to be better known that he is. He ceased trading in the early 1930s.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after 90 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sauce boat measures 16.5cm / 6.5ins in length, 5.3cm / 2.1ins across and stands 5.6cm / 2.2ins high to the top of the handle. It weighs in at a very respectable 62.1g / 2.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter F for 1930 and the C W makers' mark for Charles Weale.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the sauce boat.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
