Art Nouveau Silver Bonbon Dish, G'smith & S'smith

Here we have an exquisite Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Bonbon Dish from the late Victorian era. The dish has an oval base with a spreading embossed foot and short pedestal stem. The main dish has pierced sides with sweeping Nouveau style foliage. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The bonbon dish was made in London by the famous Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co and dates to 1896. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bonbon dish is 14.5cm / 5.7ins long, 11cm / 4.3ins wide and 5.4cm / 2.1ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 85.6g / 3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the dish, are nice and clear to read apart from some distortion to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter a for 1896 and the W G over J L makers' mark for William Gibson and John Langman of The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company. In addition, the underside of the base has the retail stamp for Goldsmiths Co, 112 Regent Street.
Shipping in the UK is £11.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bonbon dish.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
