Arts & Crafts Silver Spoon, Lee & Wigfull 1920

This is a fine quality George V Sterling Silver Dessert Spoon in the Arts & Crafts style. The spoon has a \"coffin\" end, meaning it is squared off rather than rounded and there is a studded thread down each side of the stem on both the top side and the under side. The name \"Gordon\" has been stylishly engraved at the top of the stem, suggesting this was most probably a Christening gift.
The spoon is a well made piece in a good gauge of silver. It was produced in Sheffield by noted silversmiths Lee & Wigfull and dates to 1920. There is also a registered design number which shows that the pattern was registered in 1905, very much in the Arts & Crafts era. Lee & Wigfull was founded in the 1860s by George Lee & Henry Wigfull. Although Lee had left the business by 1870, Henry Wigfull continued with the same company name and they remained in business into the 1950s.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the minimal surface wear that you would expect after a hundred years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 15.3cm / 6\" long and weighs a very respectable 27.4g / 0.96oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the back of the bowl are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter \"c\" for 1920 and H.W makers\' mark for Henry Wigfull of Lee & Wigfull.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
