Continental Silver Topped Glass Dressing Table Box

Here we have a fine quality Continental glass box of decent size with an 800 grade silver lid. The box is most probably German, possibly from Hanau as the silver marks are non-standard. It dates to the late 19th or early 20th century.
The glass box is an elongated octagonal shape with slice cut sides and a diamond cut base. The lid has an embossed autumnal design of fir cones, nuts, leaves and berries with the underside being gilded to protect against any corrosive effect from the contents.
Originally we think this would have been for a dressing table but it is a versatile box that could be used for storing almost anything either personal items on a dressing table or stationery items on a desk for example.
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks in the glass box and no dings or dents in the silver lid. The gilding on the underside of the lid has worn a little thin in places after many years of cleaning and polishing but it remains distinctively gold in colour. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The box is quite a substantial size, being 10cm / 4" wide, 6.5cm / 2.5" deep and 6.5cm / 2.5" high. The silver lid by itself weighs 48.4g / 1.7oz, whilst the combined glass box and silver lid weigh in at 337.1g / 11.9oz.
The side of the lid is stamped 800 for 800 / 1000 grade silver, the German standard and there is a second mark, which we think is a Hanau non-standard makers' mark. If anyone can identify it more certainly do please let us know!
