Cut Glass Perfume Bottle with Silver Top, 1926
This is an attractive George V Cut Glass Perfume Bottle with a Sterling Silver collar and lid. The perfume bottle is spherical with a flat base and has star and line cut decoration around the body. There is an inner cut glass stopper which sits within the silver collar and a mushroom shaped outer silver lid.
The perfume bottle is made in London by Henry Perkins & Sons and dates to 1926. Based in Tottenham Court Road from 1901, the firm specialised in silver mounted glassware such as perfume bottles, dressing table jars and vases and also silver mounted pipes, cheroot and cigarette holders and other smoking paraphernalia. They remained in business into the early 1930s.
Condition of the glass is very good with no chips, cracks or fogging. The silver lid has a few little dings in it and the silver collar has a dent just above the hallmark. These issues are reflected in the price. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bottle is 9.8cm / 3.8ins high and 7cm / 2.7ins in diameter. All together it weighs 243.0g / 8.5oz.
Both the lid and the collar have a full set of hallmarks, which are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the Gothic date letter l for 1926 and the H P & S makers' mark for Henry Perkins & Sons.
