Edwardian 3 Pce Cruet Set, Hukin & Heath, 1901

Here we have a top quality Edwardian Glass and Sterling Silver 3 Piece Cruet Set on a Sterling Silver stand. The trefoil shaped stand with curved handle stands on three ball feet. The cruet set consists of a glass open salt, silver mounted glass pepper shaker and silver mounted mustard pot. It is a small set designed for a single person either for the dining table or for a very special breakfast tray.
The set is made in London by famous silversmiths Hukin & Heath and dates to 1901. Founded in Birmingham in 1855 by J.W. Hukin and J.T. Heath, they are most famous for their association with the great Dr Christopher Dresser during the 1870s and 1880s, often featuring his groundbreaking designs at their London showroom. J.W. Hukin retired in 1881 and J.H. Middleton became Heath's new partner. They finally ceased trading in 1953.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 120 years of use. The top of the pepper shaker is a tight fit onto the collar making it secure for use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The stand is 8.5cm / 3.3ins from rim to handle 6.9cm / 2.7ins across. The salt is 3.3cm / 1.3ins across and 2.7cm / 1in high. The pepper shaker is 2.7cm / 1in across and 4.2cm / 1.6ins high. The mustard pot is 2.7cm / 1in across and 5.3cm / 2.1ins high. The whole set weighs in at 44g / 1.5oz of mixed glass and Sterling Silver.
The set is comprehensively hallmarked, with stamps on the underside of the stand, on the rim of the stand, on the cap of the mustard pot and on both the lid and collar of the pepper shaker. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter f for 1901 and the JTH over JHM makers' mark for John Thomas Heath and John Hartshorne Middleton of Hukin & Heath.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
