Edwardian Cut Glass Perfume Bottle With Silver Collar

This is a charming and unusual Edwardian Cut Glass Perfume Bottle in a rare Peach colour with a Sterling Silver collar. The bottle is an octagonal sphere with four lozenges around the body. The stopper is formed as a rounded cross with four faceted ribs.
The perfume bottle was made C.C. May & Son and assayed in Birmingham in 1908. Charles May founded his firm in Shoreditch in London in 1838. By 1881 they had moved to Hackney and become C.C. May & Son. The company specialised in silver mounted glass, particularly dressing table and grooming items and match strikes, and also in silver thimbles, which they produced in considerable quantity. They registered marks in both London and Birmingham. The firm ceased trading in the early 1920s.
Condition is good with no chips or cracks in the glass bottle and just a couple of truly tiny nibbles in the stopper. There is one very small ding in the silver collar. There is some clouding to the inside of the bottle, as is often the case in glass of this age, but this disappears when there is liquid in the bottle. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The perfume bottle is 7cm / 2.7ins high and 4.2cm / 1.6ins across at its widest point. It weighs 76.3g / 2.7oz.
The hallmarks on the silver collare are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter II for 1908 and the C M makers' mark for C.C. May & Son.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
