This is an intriguing Edwardian Sterling Silver dish with a solid base and pierced sides. The dish was made in Birmingham by Deakin & Francis and dates to 1907. It is a very elegant piece with fleur-de-lys decoration around the sides and a scalloped rim. It was probably designed as a pin dish and there is some scratching to the central base that suggests it has certainly been used for this purpose. Today it would make a beautiful tealight or small candle holder that would be perfect on a table for two.

Deakin & Francis have a proud history as silversmiths and jewellers dating back to 1786. The firm is still run by members of the Deakin family today. They are England's oldest manufacturing jewellers and still working from the same building that they started in back in the 18th century.

The dish is a very well made item in a good gauge of silver. It is in good condition with no dings or dents and just the surface scratching on the central disc mentioned above. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The dish is 11.5cm in diameter and stands 1.6cm high. It weighs a very respectable 52.3g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the inside of the rim, are well struck and clear to read. There is also a registered design number. The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "h" for 1907 and the D&F makers' mark for Deakin & Francis. The registered design number is 508818, which also dates the design to 1907.
