Edwardian Silver Double Stamp Holder, Chester 1902

This is a charming Edwardian Sterling Silver Double Sided Stamp Holder. The stamp holder is in the envelope style with ivy leaf engraving on both sides and gilt interiors. Unusually it opens on both sides so that you could put 1st Class stamps in one side and 2nd Class in the other.
The stamp holder is made by The Boots Pure Drug Company and assayed in Chester in 1902. Founded in Nottingham by John Boot in 1849, Boots The Chemist is now one of the UK's largest and most successful retailers. Between around 1900 and 1925, Boots produced and stocked a wide range of good quality household & personal silverware, primarily, though not exclusively, aimed at female customers. These attractive items have now become popular with collectors.
Condition is very good, with just one truly tiny ding on the rim on one side plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The stamp holder measures 2.8cm / 1.1ins by 2.1cm / 0.8ins and weighs in at 6.1g / 0.21oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the bottom of the holder, are a little rubbed but can still be read. The show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword & three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter B for 1902 and the B.P.D.C makers' mark for The Boots Pure Drug Company.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
