Edwardian Silver Honey Spoon, Roberts & Belk, 1908

This is a good quality and very practical Edwardian Sterling Silver Honey Spoon. The spoon has a wide bowl for scooping honey from the pot and a hook on the lower part of the stem to hang over the rim of the pot after use so that any surplus honey drips back into the pot. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The honey spoon is made in Sheffield by Roberts & Belk in 1908 and was retailed by Wilson & Gill of Regent Street, London. Roberts & Belk traced its history back to the firm of Furniss, Poles & Turner founded in 1810. William Briggs joined the firm in 1822 and later took Samuel Roberts as a partner. After William Briggs retired in 1863, Charles Belk joined and the firm became Roberts & Belk, the name they retained until they were bought by C.J. Vander in 1961. They were a very successful company producing a wide range of domestic silverware, tableware and flatware.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 115 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The honey spoon is a well made piece in a good heavy gauge of silver. It is 14cm / 5.5ins long and weighs in at 31.5g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter q for 1908 and the R & B makers' mark for Roberts & Belk. On the underside of the stem is the Aladdin's lamp trademark for Roberts & Belk, the patent number and the retail stamp for Wilson & Gill of Regent Street.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
