Edwardian Silver Ring Box, Adie & Lovekin, 1903

This is an attractive Edwardian Sterling Silver Ring Box. The oval box has a hinged lid, which is embossed with flowers and foliage around a blank central cartouche. The body is plain and the interior is lined with green silk and has a green velvet ring tray with slots for six rings.
The ring box was made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Adie & Lovekin and dates to 1903. Founded in 1863 by James Adie and Alfred Lovekin, the firm specialised in flatware, fancy goods, silver antique jewellery and particularly sewing related items. Their pin cushions are highly collectable. The original partners passed away in 1913 and 1912 and the firm carried on until around 1930.
Condition is very good, with just one truly miniscule ding in the body plus the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 120 years of good service. There is a small frayed patch on the silk lining in the lid. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The ring box is 10.7cm / 4.2ins wide, 3.7cm / 1.4ins deep and 2.9cm / 1.1ins high. It weighs 68.5g / 2.4oz.
The hallmarks, on the inside rim, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter d for 1903 and the A & L Ld makers' mark for Adie & Lovekin Limited.
Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the ring box.
