Edwardian Silver Salt Spoon, W. Hutton, 1909
This is a top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The salt spoon is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths William Hutton & Sons Ltd and dates to 1909. William Hutton originally founded his business in Birmingham in 1800 before moving to Sheffield in 1832. The firm remained in the Hutton family producing high quality silverware until they finally ceased trading in 1930.
This salt spoon in the Old English pattern is decorated at the top of the stem with an expertly engraved crest of a lion holding a sword. This crest, or variations thereon, has been used by a number of different families over the course of time so it's hard to say who it belongs to.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the minimal surface wear you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 8cm / 3.25" long and weighs a respectable 7.5g / 0.26oz.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "r" for 1909 and the distinctive WH & Ss Ld makers' mark for William Hutton & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
