Edwardian Silver Toast Rack, Atkin Brothers, 1907

This is an attractive Edwardian Sterling Silver Four Slot Toast Rack. The rack has an oblong base standing on four ball feet. The dividers have high pointed arches and the finger ring handle has the same shape. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The toast rack was made in Sheffield by Atkin Brothers and dates to 1907. Tracing its roots back to Thomas Law in the mid-18th century, the Atkin family took sole control of the business in 1840, first as Henry Atkin & Co and then from 1853 as Atkin Brothers. The firm manufactured both silverware and electroplate in Sheffield and also had a London showroom. They ceased trading in 1958.
Condition is very good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The toast rack measures 6.7cm / 2.6ins by 4.8cm / 1.9ins and stands 7.7cm / 3ins high. It weighs in at a respectable 42.5g / 1.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, at one end of the toast rack, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter p for 1907 and the H A makers' mark for Harry Atkin of Atkin Brothers.
