George II Silver Brandy Warming Pan, London, 1750

Here we have a superb George II Sterling Silver Brandy Warming Pan with a turned wood handle. The silver pan has a line decorated base with the shaft attached by a heart shaped plate. The wooden handle is nicely turned and also has line decoration. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The brandy pan was made in London in 1750 by either Edward Aldridge or Edward Wakelin. Edward Aldridge was active between around 1740 and 1765, whilst Edward Wakelin was active between 1747 and around 1760. They are both known to have made brandy warmers.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no splits in the wooden handle and just the overall superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after 275 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pan is 25.4cm / 10ins long from rim to handle tip, 9.9cm / 3.9ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 15.8cm / 6.2ins high. It weighs in at 202.0g / 7.12oz.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are a little rubbed as you would expect but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter p for 1750 and the E something makers' mark, which could be either E A for Edward Aldridge or E W for Edward Wakelin.
Shipping in the UK is £13 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the pan.
Overseas customers, please ask us abouty shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
