George II Silver Table Spoon, Ebenezer Coker, 1751

This is a fine quality George II Sterling Silver Table Spoon in the Hanoverian pattern. The Hanoverian pattern differs from Old English in that the end of the stem is turned up rather than down. The bottom marked spoon has a monogram of the letters E and B engraved on the underside of the stem.
The table spoon was made in London by silversmith Ebenezer Coker and dates to 1751. Ebenezer Coker was an important London silversmith through the middle years of the eighteenth century. He registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in 1738 and is particularly known for his candlesticks, flatware and salvers, all of consistently high quality. Both Thomas Chawner and John Lambe were his apprentices before going on to distinguished careers of their own. He remained in business into the 1770s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 270 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The table spoon is 20.5cm / 8ins long and weighs in at a very respectable 77.4g / 2.73oz of solid Sterling Silver.
Being bottom marked, the hallmarks are inevitably a little distorted but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter q for 1751 and the E C makers' mark for Ebenezer Coker.
Shipping in the UK is £11.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the table spoon.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
