George III Silver Table Spoon, G.F, Exeter, 1815

This is a good quality George III Sterling Silver Table Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon has the initials I.P I.P and the date 1818 and below these the initials J.P, suggesting that the spoon has passed through at least a couple of family generations, maybe originally as a wedding present and then as a Christening gift.
The table spoon was made in Exeter by silversmith George Ferris and dates to 1815. George Ferris registered his mark at the Exeter assay office in 1800. He was a specialist spoon and flatware maker and remained active until 1832. He was the younger brother of Richard Ferris and probably spent his earlier years in his brother’s business before setting up on his own. George died in 1840.
Condition is good, with just a couple of shallow dings in the bowl plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 210 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The table spoon is 21cm / 8.25ins long and weighs in at a very respectable 44.1g / 1.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the date letter T for 1815, the George III duty mark and the G F makers' mark for George Ferris.
