George III Small Silver Goblet, London, 1801

Here we have an elegant George III Small Sterling Silver Goblet. The goblet has a circular base with engraved decoration, a short pedestal stem and a band of embossed flower decoration around the body to either side of a blank cartouche.
Wine glasses and goblets in Georgian times were much smaller than the large wine glasses we tend to use today, so although small by 21st century standards this would've been a perfectly normal size when it was made.
The goblet was made in London and dates to 1801. Unfortunately the makers' mark has been rubbed away by many years of polishing so we are unable to say specifically who made it.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 220 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The goblet is 8.5cm / 3.3ins high and 5.8cm / 2.3ins in diameter. It weighs in at a very respectable 54.5g / 1.92oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the top rim of the goblet, are quite rubbed but all can be made out apart from the makers' mark which is completely polished away. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter F for 1801, the George III duty mark and the ghost of whatever the makers' mark is.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the goblet.
