George IV Irish Silver Prize Spoon, Dublin, 1830

Here we have an unusual and interesting George IV Irish Sterling Silver Prize or Presentation Spoon. The spoon is in the Fiddle pattern but the top of the stem is a little larger than usual to accomodate the inscription.
The spoon was presented as 1st Prize by the Horticultural Society of Ireland to W. Hyland for Noblesse Peaches in 1830. Founded in 1816, the Society held its first shows in 1817. After declining somewhat it was reinvigorated in 1830 with a new committee and new shows, at one of which this spoon must have been presented. It became the Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland in 1848.
The spoon was made in 1830 by Samuel Neville of Dublin. Neville was a specialist spoon maker who had a long career from the 1790s through to about 1840.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only the word PRIZE on the stem of the spoon somewhat worn. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 15.7cm / 6.2ins long and weighs a very respectable 34.2g / 1.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the crowned harp for Irish Sterling Silver, the Hibernia assay mark for Dublin, the date letter K for 1830, the distinctive Irish George IV duty mark and the S.N makers' mark for Samuel Neville.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
