George IV Silver Cream Jug, William Brown, 1826

Here we have a superb quality large and heavy George IV Sterling Silver Cream Jug with a Gilt interior. The cream jug has a bulbous, ribbed circular body standing on four bracket feet with floral decoration. There is a scalloped top rim and broad pouring lip and the scrolling handle is topped with acanthus leaf decoration. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The cream jug was made in London by William Brown and dates to 1826. William Brown was an accomplished silversmith who registered his first mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1823. He principally made high quality tableware and his mark is often seen on salvers and trays. He remained active into the late 1840s.
Condition is extremely good with just one truly tiny ding in the body and some wear to the gilding on the inside plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 200 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cream jug measures 14.6cm / 5.7ins from lip to handle, 9.5cm / 3.7ins across the body and stands 10.7cm / 4.2ins high. It weighs in at a very substantial 235.9g / 8.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter l for 1826, the George IV duty mark and the W.B makers' mark for William Brown.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cream jug.
