George V Cased Silver Thimble, James Swann, 1917

This is an attractive cased George V Sterling Silver Thimble. The thimble is a UK size 7 and is decorated with a band of flowers around the bottom of the body. The case is covered in thin black leather with a cream satin lining in the lid and a blue velvet tray to hold the thimble.
The thimble was made in Birmingham by the renowned maker James Swann and dates to 1917. James Swann founded his firm in Birmingham in 1887. The company specialised in making silver thimbles but also produced occasional pieces of small tableware and smoking accessories. The company became James Swann & Son in 1922 and remained under the management of the Swann family until the late 1960s.
Condition is good, with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 105 years of good service. The case is also in good condition with the hinge and clasp in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The thimble stands 2cm high and is 1.7cm in diameter. Uncased it weighs in at 3.4g of solid Sterling Silver and cased it weighs 8.3g.
The hallmarks, around the bottom band of the thimble, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter s for 1917 and the J.S makers' mark for James Swann. It is also stamped 7 for UK size 7.
Shipping in the UK is £6.00 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
