George V Silver 6 Slice Toast Rack, B'ham, 1913
Here we have a stylish George V Sterling Silver Six Slice Toast Rack. The toast rack has a rectangular base on bracket feet with a scalloped bottom edge on each side. The dividers have square topped arches and the handle is roughly rectangular. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The toast rack is made in Birmingham by noted silversmiths S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd and dates to 1913. The firm was originally founded in Bristol by Abraham Solomon Blanckensee in 1826 but very quickly moved to premises in Birmingham. Saul Samuel was briefly a partner but left in 1858 and from 1887 they were known as S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd until they ceased trading in the late 1930s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 110 years of service on the breakfast table. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The toast rack is 11.6cm / 4.5ins long, 6.9cm / 2.7ins wide and stands 10.4cm / 4.1ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 111g / 3.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the side of the base, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter o for 1913 and the S.B & S Ltd in a shield makers' mark for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast rack.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
