George V Silver & MOP Lidded Vanity Pot, 1914

This is a very attractive George V Sterling Silver and Mother of Pearl lidded vanity jar or pot. It is a small clear glass pot with a lid made of a single large piece of Mother of Pearl mounted in a Sterling Silver rim and dates to the start of the First World War. It would originally have held face cream or some other cosmetic but you could put anything you like in it today. It would still look great on a dressing table but would be equally good for holding pins, small items of stationery or as a pill box.
The pot is made in Birmingham by W.G. Sothers & Co and dates to 1914. The company was founded around 1909 and specialised in small decorative items for personal use. They became W.G. Sothers Ltd in 1920 and remained in business up until the early 1960s.
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dings or dents in the silver and no damage to the Mother of Pearl. It has clearly been treasured and well looked after for over 100 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pot is 4.2cm / 1.6\" in diameter and 3.2cm / 1.25\" high. It weighs 62.5g / 2.2oz.
The hallmarks on the side of the lid are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter \"p\" for 1914 and the W.G.S & Co makers\' mark for W.G. Sothers & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
