George V Silver Cream Jug, S. Blanckensee, 1931

This is a very elegant George V Sterling Silver Cream Jug from the 1930s. The cream jug is made by S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd in Birmingham and dates to 1931. Abraham Solomon Blanckensee started his business in Bristol in 1826 but moved to Birmingham shortly afterwards. The firm went through various partnerships before settling as S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd in 1887. The company ceased trading during World War Two.
The cream jug has a plain body with a threaded rim. The handle is decorated to resemble a Corinthian column with stripes coming halfway down the handle and acanthus leaf decoration over the top curve where the handle joins the body.
Condition is good with just a small ding on the lower part of the body and the usual superficial surface wear you would expect in an item of this age. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The jug is 8.5cm / 3.3" high to the top of the handle, 9.3cm / 3.75" from lip to handle and 4.7cm / 1.8" across the body. It weighs in at 63.8g / 2.25oz.
The hallmarks on the side of the body near the handle are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "G" for 1931 and the S.B & S Ltd makers' mark for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
