George V Silver Mustard Pot, Wilson & Gill, 1924

Here we have a very good quality George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot complete with its blue glass liner. The mustard pot is made by Wilson & Gill in Birmingham and dates to 1924. Wilson & Gill opened their store at No.134 Regent Street, London in 1892, principally manufacturing and selling very high quality silver items. They remained in Regent Street, becoming primarily a jewellers, until 1969 when the company moved out to Buckinghamshire and changed their name to Hester Clarke, having been under the management of the Clarke family for many years.
The mustard pot is of traditional design, being a rounded oblong in form with a scalloped rim and standing on four feet. It has a simple but elegant style and would grace any dining table today or be a fine addition to a collection.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear you would expect after nearly 100 years of service. The blue glass liner, which is probably the original, is a good fit and has no chips or cracks. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard is 5.5cm / 2" long, 7cm / 2.75" from rim to handle, 3.5cm / 1.5" wide and 4cm / 1.6" high to the top of the finial. It weighs 39.7g / 1.4oz without the blue glass liner and 63.2g / 2.2oz with the liner.
The hallmarks on the side of the pot are a little rubbed but still easy to decipher. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "z" for 1924 and the distinctive W & G makers' mark for Wilson & Gill. In addition the inside of the lid is marked with the lion passant and the date letter "z" and the underside of the pot is stamped with the retail mark Wilson & Gill London.
