George V Silver Napkin Ring, John Round, 1912

This is a pretty George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. The round napkin ring has thread and bow decoration around the top and bottom rims and the body is attractively engraved with a floral design to either side of blank cartouches. Slightly mysteriously, the inside of the ring has the word Paddington engraved on it. Perhaps it once belonged to a famous marmalade sandwich eating bear...
The napkin ring was made in Sheffield by silversmiths John Round & Son Ltd and dates to 1912. The firm was founded by John Round in 1847 as a small family workshop attached to his home. He was soon joined by his son Edwin and they traded as John Round & Son. They later merged with Ridge, Allcard & Co in 1886 and John Ridge became the head of the firm. They were eventually bought by Joseph Rodgers & Sons in the 1930s.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.7cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 2.7cm / 1in deep. It weighs in at 29.3g / 1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the body of the napkin ring are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter u for 1912 and the JR in an oval makers' mark for John Round & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
