George V Silver Pedestal Bonbon Dish, Chester 1912

This is a very stylish George V Sterling Silver Pedestal Bonbon Dish. The dish has a circular foot with a short stem. On top of this the bowl rises elegantly with a solid lower section and then two rows of pierced decoration leading to six coronet points.
The bonbon dish was made by highly regarded silversmiths S. Blanckensee & Son and assayed in Chester in 1912. The firm was originally founded in Bristol by Abraham Solomon Blanckensee in 1826 but very quickly moved to premises in Birmingham. Saul Samuel was briefly a partner but left in 1858 and from 1887 they were known as S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd until they ceased trading in the late 1930s. They made a wide range of silverware of consistently high quality.
Overall condition is good with no dings, dents or damage to the bowl and just a little misshaping to the circular foot, plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bonbon dish is 9.7cm / 3.8ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 6.7cm / 2.6ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 85.1g / 3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, just below the rim, are nice and clear to read with just the makers' mark being a little rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter M for 1912 and the S.B & S Ld makers' mark for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bonbon dish.
