This is a very elegant George V Perfume Atomiser with a glass body and Sterling Silver mechanism. The spherical glass body has an engraved swag decoration all the way round beneath a band of tooth cut decoration. The underside of the base is star cut. The silver atomiser pump rises through a spherical lid which screws onto a silver threaded section on the top of the bottle.

The perfume bottle is made in Birmingham by John Grinsell & Sons and dates to 1911, the very start of the reign of George V. Not surprisingly it is very Edwardian in style. Founded in the early 1870s, John Grinsell & Sons were a successful Birmingham silversmiths who remained in business until around the mid 1950s.

Condition is good with no chips or cracks in the glass and just a few little dings in the silver lid. The pump atomiser is a little hit and miss in its operation as you might expect after 110 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The atomiser stands 16cm / 6.3ins high and is 6.8cm / 2.7ins in diameter at its widest point. The silver mechanism is hallmarked throughout its various parts and weighs 41.4g / 1.4oz of Solid Sterling Silver. The bottle and mechanism combined weigh in at 230.8g / 8.1oz.

The main set of hallmarks on the collar of the lid are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter m for 1911 and the J.G & S makers' mark for John Grinsell & Sons.
