George V Silver Pierced Bonbon Dish, London, 1914
This is a beautiful and high quality George V Sterling Silver Bonbon Dish. The dish is made by Blackmore & Fletcher Ltd in London and dates to the start of the First World War in 1914. Ernest Blackmore & Joseph Fletcher started their business in Ramillies Place, just off London's famous Oxford Street, around 1913 and remained in business up until 1940. They manufactured and sold a broad range of silver household items of consistently high quality.
This lovely bonbon dish is typical of the pre-First World War era. It stands proudly on 4 lion's paw feet, has delicately patterned pierced sides and opens out to a rim with exquisite leaf and flower decoration. It's a very well made piece in a good gauge of silver and would look beautiful in either a modern or period home.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just a couple of tiny pieces missing in the delicate pierced sides plus the superficial surface wear you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bonbon dish is 10.6cm / 4.25" in diameter and stands 4.9cm / 1.75" high. It weighs a substantial 78.6g / 2.77oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the base are crisp and clear to read with the exception of the makers' mark which is somewhat rubbed but still decipherable. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "t" for 1914 and the B&F Ltd makers' mark for Blackmore & Fletcher Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the dish.
