George V Silver Salt, Haseler Bros, Chester, 1919

This is an elegant George V Sterling Silver Salt with its original Blue Glass Liner. The salt is oval in shape with raised ends. There is a pierced band of geometric decoration around the middle of the body and it stands on four bracket feet.
The salt was made by Haseler Brothers of Birmingham and assayed in Chester in 1919. Haseler Brothers was founded by Edward John Haseler and Noble Haseler in Birmingham in 1888. They primarily produced good quality tableware although their mark is also seen on perfume bottles. They manufactured in Birmingham and had a showroom in London’s prestigious Hatton Garden district. After Noble Haseler died in 1919, Edward formed a new partnership with C. Bill and the company became known as Haseler & Bill and continued into the late 1920s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents in the silver and no damage to the pierced work. There is some salt corrosion to the inside base but this is not visible when the liner is in place. The glass liner has a small chip in the outside of the rim but remains perfectly usable. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt is 7.2cm / 2.8ins long, 4.3cm / 1.7ins wide and 4.5cm / 1.8ins high. Without the glass liner it weighs in at a very respectable 41.5g / 1.46oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 91.7g / 3.23oz.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword & three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the script date letter T for 1919 and the E J H over N H in a shield makers' mark for Edward John Haseler and Noble Haseler of Haseler Brothers.
