George V Silver Spill Vase, S. Blanckensee, 1921

This is an elegant George V Sterling Silver Spill Vase. The slender vase stands on a domed circular base, weighted for stability, with a bulbous knop from which rises the tapering trumpet shaped body.
The vase was made in Birmingham by highly regarded silversmiths S. Blanckensee & Son and dates to 1921. The firm was originally founded in Bristol by Abraham Solomon Blanckensee in 1826 but very quickly moved to premises in Birmingham and also had a mark registered in Chester. Saul Samuel was briefly a partner but left in 1858 and from the 1880s they were known as S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd until they ceased trading at the end of the 1930s. They made a wide range of silverware of consistently high quality.
Condition is good, with just a few small dings in the body plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The vase stands 16.3cm / 6.4ins high and is 6.5cm / 2.5ins in diameter across the top rim. It weighs in at 106.6g / 3.76oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.
The hallmarks, on the upper side of the base, are a little rubbed but still okay to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter w for 1921 and the S.B & S.Ld makers' mark for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
