George V Six British Hallmarks Teaspoons Set, 1935

This is a very special cased set of George V Sterling Silver Teaspoons produced to celebrate the King's Silver Jubilee in 1935 featuring a spoon assayed at each of the six British assay offices then in operation. The spoons are in the old 18th century Hanoverian pattern with an upturned end to the stem and a long rat tail along the back of the bowl. This style was laid on the table with the bowl facing down, which suits these spoons perfectly as it shows off the varying hallmarks.
The teaspoons are all made by silversmiths Roberts & Belk, a Sheffield based company and then assayed at the different offices around the country.
The King George V and Queen Mary Silver Jubilee mark was only allowed to be used in the calendar year of 1935. As the assay offices all changed their date letters part way through the year (London in May, Birmingham, Chester, Glasgow & Sheffield in July, Edinburgh in September), the jubilee mark is found with both 1934 letters and 1935 letters but you can be sure the item was assayed in 1935. All the letters in this set are 1935 letters, so it must have been produced between September and December that year. There is an original information card about the hallmarks included with the set.
Condition is exceptionally good. It doesn't appear that these teaspoons have ever been used, simply kept as a memento of the King's Silver Jubilee. The outside of the box is a little scuffed but it has done its job and the interior and the spoons have all been well protected. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 10.9cm / 4.3ins long and the set of six together, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 82g / 2.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
As you would expect with this set, the hallmarks are all well struck and clear to read. They all have a variation on the R & B mark for Roberts & Belk and the George V Silver Jubilee mark. The English spoons have the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the Glasgow spoon has the lion rampant & the thistle for Scottish Sterling Silver and the Edinburgh spoon has the thistle for Scottish Sterling Silver. There is then the assay mark for each office and the 1935 date letter for each office, which are all different.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
