George V Teatime Flatware Set, F.C. Asman, 1925

This is a fine quality cased set of George V Sterling Silver Teatime Flatware featuring 6 teaspoons, a pair of sugar tongs, a sugar or jam spoon and a butter knife. All the pieces are decorated with a central flower at the top of the stem and a harebell pattern descending from it down each side. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The set is made in Sheffield by Frederick C. Asman & Co and dates to 1925. Frederick Asman founded his firm in the late 1890s. They were primarily producers of good quality flatware and cutlery and remained in business up until the early 1930s.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 95 years of good service. The only exception is a small scratch on each bowl of the sugar tongs. The tongs are a tight fight in the case and it seems someone has maybe used something to prise them out. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teaspoons are each 11.8cm / 4.6ins long, the butter knife is 14.8cm / 5.8ins long, the sugar / jam spoon is 12cm / 4.7ins long and the sugar tongs are 10.4cm / 4.1ins long. All together, unboxed, the pieces weigh in at a very substantial 155.2g / 5.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowls and the underside of the blade on the butter knife, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter h for 1925 and the F.C.A & Co in a shield makers' mark for Frederick C. Asman & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
