George VI Silver Caddy Spoon, William Yates, 1945
![](http://staticaz.antiquesatlas.com/images/loading_new.gif)
This is a fine George VI Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon from the end of the Second World War. The spoon is in the thread and flower pattern with the distinctive caddy spoon wide bowl for scooping up loose leaf tea.
The spoon is made in Sheffield by William Yates Ltd and dates to 1945. Founded in 1750, William Yates is one of Sheffield's most historic silversmiths and remained in the control of the Yates family until 2003 when it became part of a consortium of Sheffield manufacturers called Chimo.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 75 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The caddy spoon is 9.5cm / 3.7ins long and 3.5cm / 1.4ins across the bowl. It weighs in at a respectable 15.3g / 0.54oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter C for 1945 and the W.Y makers' mark for William Yates Ltd. In addition it is stamped STERLING and ENGLAND, which suggests that it was part of an export order as these wouldn't be necessary on silver sold in the UK.
Shipping in the UK is £5 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
