Novelty German Hanau Repoussé Silver Miniature Cabinet, c1900.
A beautiful German Hanau solid silver box. It is hallmarked on the base with German Hanau mark for the maker Neresheimer, dating to c1900. Silver grade mark is rubbed off but is likely in the range of 830-930 typical for Hanau objects.
August and Ludwig Neresheimer were one of the founders of the 19th C Hanau silver industry in 1890. The free city of Hanau specialized in producing copies of 16th to 18th century historic silver.
This miniature silver cabinet is in the French rococo style, beautifully embossed with a 18th century romantic scene to the front, foliage decoration around the door and a plain back. The hinged door has a tiny handle which turns and locks the door.

It is in a very good condition - free from dings splits holes and repairs. The inside is clean, the hinge is strong, and the handle works well.

The front of the cabinet measures approx. 4.5cm across by 6.5cm tall, back: 3.7cm x 4.9cm, base 1.7cm x 4.4cm and weighs 38.9 grams.

This is a charming decorative item which can be used as a pill box or a small trinket box.
