Grand Tour Italian Bronze of Spinario, 19th C
This is a 19th century Grand Tour Italian bronze of Spinario or 'Boy with Thorn' modelled after the antique. Nicely cast with good detail such as in the hair, hands and feet, and possessing an attractive dark patina. As is often the case with this figure the head was cast separately from the body but the join is almost invisible.
Boy with Thorn is a Greco-Roman Hellenistic bronze sculpture of a boy withdrawing a thorn from the sole of his foot, now in the Palazzo dei Conservatori, Rome. There is a Roman marble version of this subject from the Medici collections in a corridor of the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. (Source: Wikipedia)
Dimensions: Height 19 cm x Width 11.5 cm x Depth 14 cm
Weight 1.6 kg
Condition: This bronze is in very good antique condition. It has a wonderful dark patina with some golden highlights in the hair, the extremities of the big toes and the tip of the nose.
Postage & packing: £8 within the UK. Please contact us for a postage quote if you would like the bronze sent to an international destination.
