Hors D'oeuvres Dish by James Dixon and Sons
A most unusual vintage serving set, unusually made from sterling silver rather than silver plate, signed by the top-notch Sheffield silversmith, James Dixon and Sons.
The frame is fitted with the six original cut crystal dishes and come complete with the original three sterling silver serving pieces, all matching and all by James Dixon, so the original to the set.
The frame is fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1934, there are Art Deco influences to the set with linear cutting to the dishes complimenting the linear handles to the handles of the serving implements. Each of the three pieces are also fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1924 / 1927 / 1928. It isn't unusual for them to be different dates, these were stored in the silversmith's or retailer and picked when sold, so not always the same date letter all marked with the matching makers mark for James Dixon and Sons.
The frame stands on the original four bun feet a magnificent find in superb condition measuring 13" x 9" x 6 1/4" tall to top of handle.
