Majapahit Eastern Javanese Bronze Standing Boar

Two very rare 14th/16th Century Majapahit Eastern Javanese Bronze unslotted Standing Boar.
The price shown is for 1 boar. (Your choice of which one)
Beautifully naturalistic and well made. The boar is hollow cast.
A superb and rare early bronze example.
The fierce tusks suggest it is a wild boar sufficiently domesticated to wear a chain with a bell, a common feature of most of the Eastern Javanese terracotta piggy banks.
In Trowulan, the capital of the Eastern Javanese Kingdom of Majapahit, many terracotta pigs and only a few bronze pigs have been found with slots cut at the top so that they could serve as coin boxes (piggy banks).
Also coin boxes in the shape of other animals were used, but the pig was very popular, most likely because the pig was not only a culinary delight but was also associated with financial success and prosperity due to his big belly.
Only a few pigs have been discovered without a slot and their function remains unknown.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has in their collection a bronze Majapahit pig without a slot the same as this piece.
My two boar offered here are of different patination.
No polishing etc. has been carried out to change the original look.
An identical boar was televised on The Antiques Roadshow some time ago.
They were recorded as being Roman and valued at £10,000.00
It is my believe that, as with the opinion of Met Museum that they are in fact Javanese and more realistically valued at circa £1000.00 each.
I have a copy of the original video for you perusal and a copy of the Met Museum web page
The final image shown is the auction result of a boar some time after the BBC show.
The price shown being + commission.
Please contact me to discuss further.
This listing is for only 1 (one) boar you are welcome to choose either.
I am happy to discuss an offer for both boar.
