ORIGINAL ‘ART DECO’ BRONZE NUDE ‘Sword Dancer'
Bronze ‘Sword Dancer’ (‘Danseuse aux Lances') sculpture by Fernand Ouillon-Carrère, signed and dated 1919. Charmingly modelled, it depicts a naked young woman, her arms outstretched and hair in coiled plaits, dancing between three daggers at her feet. The statues stands 14in (36cm) high, including its original variegated marble base (approx. 3½ x 3½in/9 x 9cm). Excellent original condition.
French sculptor Fernand Ouillon-Carrere worked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He created many small figural models that were highly characteristic of the period – in particular of woman in rhythmic, sensual and aerodynamic poses taken from the new forms of dance. This famous sculpture was exhibited in the Paris Salon in 1919.
