Pair Edwardian Silver Bonbon Dishes, Mappin & Webb

Here we have an elegant Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Pierced Bowls. The bowls are circular with four tiers of piercing around the bodies and two Art Nouveau style handles rising from the top rims. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The bowls were made in Birmingham by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb and date to 1908. One of the best known names in English silverware, the firm was originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr. In 1859 the company split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The Mappin & Webb brand name remains a byword for quality and style to this day.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced sections and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each bowl is 12.1cm / 4.7ins from handle to handle, 9.8cm / 3.8ins in diameter and stands 4cm / 1.5ins high. The pair together weighs in at a very respectable 101.4g / 3.57oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter II for 1908 and the Mn & Wb makers' mark for Mappin & Webb. In addition they have the MAPPIN & WEBB LTD retail stamp and the RD No.524645, which shows that the original design also dates to 1908.
Shipping in the UK is £12.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the dishes.
