Pierced Bowl Silver Caddy Spoon G Burrows I 1787


Arthur Vandyk Antiques are delighted to offer for sale this rare pieced bowl late 18th Century silver caddy spoon in the English pattern with oval bowl.
This elegant handmade caddy spoon has exquisite bright cut decoration to the bowl and handle, the handle has a vacant shield cartouche, the bowl is hand pierced, with a cross design to the centre.
The pierced bowl was probably a legacy of the earlier Mote spoon and it is likely that this spoon had a duel purpose.
This delightful and rare pierced bowl George III period caddy spoon that would make an ideal gift or an excellent addition to any silver flatware collection.
Details:
Silversmith: Probably George Burrows I (active between 1765-1800), only the letter B and the outline of the rectangular estcrution is visible , the spoon is a close match to other examples by the same silversmith.
Assay office: London (lacks leopard head and duty mark)
Year of manufacture: 1787
Weight: 8 grams
Length: 6.5 cm
Condition report:
In overall excellent good condition for its age of 235 years, with some minor tarnish marks and age related scratches, the bright cut decoration is in excellent order.
