Romantic gifts for her 25th anniversary gifts for wives silver wedding gift ideas

This solid silver powder compact is suitable as a collector's piece or for use with loose powder.

The photographs in no way capture the beauty of this high quality early Kigu vanity mirror. In person the compact is highly reflective shiny high grade silver.

An extremely rare opportunity to purchase a fully hallmarked sterling silver Kigu LOVE BIRD " Cherie " heart shaped powder compact in superb condition. A superbly impressive love token made by a premier British maker of luxury accessories in 1942, which is even more thrilling, as this is a very early Kigu compact. The lid is decorated with two love birds immaculately presented on a tree branch. The lid and base are decorated with an engraving style Kigu referred to as 'shantung' 'which brings to mind the delicate shimmer of silk'. The engraving does resemble the the silk which was historically made in the province of Shandong. The irregular textures of the silk shimmer in the light. This type of silk is often used for bridal gowns & the silversmiths at Kigu captured the essence of this fabric in sterling silver. The “Cherie” range of compacts were especially made as tokens of love by Kigu. The name means ‘dear’ in French and the compact is shaped like a heart. The tag line in Kigu catalogues for this model of compact was‘ For your chosen one, a “ Cherie “ heart shape! ‘ The beautiful lid lifts to reveal an excellent mirror. The mirror bezel is hallmarked & inscribed "MADE IN ENGLAND". The inner case is exactly what we have come to expect from the master goldsmith - ornate precise & beautiful. The inner lid is decorated with guilloche engraving and bears the triangular registered Kigu trademark. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The case is fully hallmarked London Assay Office "KLD lion passant leopards head G ". It was assayed at London in 1942. The original felt lined pouch, original unused signed puff and sifter are present.

The sterling silver vintage Kigu compact measures 3 1/4" X 3" & weighs 97.4 grams.
