Set Of 6 Silver George V Silver Jubilee Teaspoons George V Silver Jubilee Teaspoons %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is an elegant set of 6 Sterling Silver George V Silver Jubilee Teaspoons. The teaspoons were made for the Northern Goldsmiths Company of Newcastle Upon Tyne and assayed in London. Three of the spoons date to 1934 and three to 1935. This was very common when sets of spoons were sold as the retailer would just take spoons from their stock regardless of their year of manufacture.

The Northern Goldsmiths Company is a famous Newcastle Upon Tyne retailer founded in 1892 and still going strong today. Their premises on the corner of Pilgrim Street and Blackett Street are a Newcastle landmark with their fabulous gold antique clock beneath a statue of Venus looking out over the streets below.

This set of 6 teaspoons were made for the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935. Each spoon is topped by the cipher for King George and Queen Mary and the dates AD 1910-35. They are beautifully made and would have been a very expensive royal souvenir at the time.

The spoons are in very good condition overall with just one spoon having a couple of small dings to the bowl, possibly it has been dropped at some point in the past. The other five spoons are excellent and appear to have had little or no use, probably just being kept as a souvenir set. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoons are each 10.6cm / 4.25" long and the set of 6 weighs a respectable 54.9g / 1.94oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowls, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the George V and Queen Mary silver jubilee mark that was used in 1934 and 1935 and the NG Co sponsors' mark for Northern Goldsmiths Co. Three of the spoons have the date letter "t" for 1934 and the other three have the date letter "u" for 1935.
