Silver and Tortoiseshell Round Box and cover
A hallmarked silver and tortoiseshell pique vanity,jewellery or pill box. This is fitting push cover box, therefore no hinges nor clasps to worry about. The silver pique inlaid decoration is of particular note, the fruit bowl sided by birds above elaborate foliate swags. The base is a light guage silver and as far as we can tell was hand finished with a subtle hammered effect rather than a completely plain surface, it is regular pattern around the whole box which indicates it was intended when made.
The hallmarks are on both the base and the lid , are assayed London 1918 (an important date-being during WW1)and made by Cork & Apthorp.
size: 62mm maximum diameter and 26 mm height weight 28 gms
Condition: this is in good condition, it has a few signs of its years an odd dink but we would consider nothing major. We have lightly cleaned but not elected to go further to take it to 'as new'. Always refer to the photographs for detailed pictures of any of our pieces, we can also supply more if required. It is a pleasure to assist all enquirers.
