This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the popular King's Pattern, in this case with the Diamond Heel variant. The spoon is made in London and dates to 1911. Unfortunately the makers' mark is somewhat rubbed and we have been unable to decipher it.

The King's Pattern is one of the most popular and enduring flatware patterns. Based on 18th century French designs it was introduced into Britain in the early 19th century and has remained in production ever since.

Although we cannot identify the maker, this is a well made spoon in a good gauge of silver. It is perfectly usable on its own for mustard or other condiments on a modern dining table or would make a good addition to an existing King's Pattern service.

The spoon is in good overall condition with no dings or dents and just the surface wear you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mustard spoon is 9.1cm / 3.6" long and weighs a respectable 9.9g / 0.35oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the back of the bowl are a little rubbed but you can clearly read the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London and the date letter "q" for 1911. Some of the makers' mark is still visible and better eyes than ours may yet be able to identify it!
