Silver Powder Compact & Mirror

This is a lovely vintage silver powder compact, hallmarked with the dagger mark which indicates it is Dutch. It is in lovely condition with an engine turned pattern on the top. It is quite heavy and feels nice and solid. It measures 8.5cm in diameter and. around a cm deep. The size makes it usable, it is slightly larger than the older vintage compacts, these can be harder to see yourself in. Inside it has a good clear mirror and a powder compartment hidden by a sprung ‘door’. This is opened and closed by sliding a small oval shape. The compartment holds a vintage puff, a gauze cover and a small amount of loose powder. The sprung compartment opens and closes well and the whole piece is in good order. The loose powder is refillable.
This piece is marked with a dagger for Holland and dates from around 1953 - the actual date letter and purity will be stamped on the blade but it is beyond my sight even with magnification. This stamp was used from 1907 to 1953 without any further marks and indicates that the piece is Dutch with a purity of .835 or .925. After 1953 the purity value was stamped on the sword, I can just make out something but can’t see what so I’m surmising that this dates post 1953. Sterling silver purity is 925 for the UK, 835 is the European standard. 835 is a s lightly less pure standard but this means it is slightly more durable as it is not quite so soft a metal. It is in lovely order throughout.
