Victorian Oak-Framed Tapestry Fire Screen
This antique fire screen dates from c.1860. It does show signs of significant alteration. The fire screen has an oak frame with moulded decoration to the front. It is supported on carved decorative legs with carved supports. The tapestry picture in the centre depicts Georgian style figures out walking. The picture is glazed.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, but does have some wear consistent with age and use and would benefit from some tlc. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is would benefit from being re-polished. The back legs are a little loose. As is mentioned above it does show signs of significant alteration. The picture may originally have been higher up on the base. The tapestry picture is overall faded and discoloured, and the backing of the picture is fragile and requires repair. The outer backing is mostly missing and the inner backing is badly torn with loss.
