Victorian Silver Cream Jug, Mappin & Webb, 1895
A lovely late Victorian Sterling Silver Cream Jug with a scalloped rim, bulbous body and elegantly curved handle standing on three legs with scalloped feet.
The jug was assayed in London and made by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb in 1895. There is a gothic style letter "M" neatly engraved on one side of the body.
The cream jug is very good condition with no dings or dents and it stands perfectly on a flat surface on its three feet. It is 10.2cm high to the top of the handle and 8.5cm across from the pouring lip to the handle. It weighs a very respectable 105.9g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the bottom of the jug, are well struck and very clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "U" for 1895 and the JNM makers' mark for James Newton Mappin, co-founder of Mappin & Webb. In addition it bears the retail stamp Mappin & Webb London.
Shipping cost in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
Overseas customers please enquire about shipping costs before making a purchase.
