This is a charming late Victorian Sterling Silver Trinket Dish. The dish stands on three ball feet and is heart shaped with a broad pierced rim decorated with swags and scrolls. The centre of the dish is engraved with a crest of a stag's head, a device that has been used by many families over the years.

The trinket dish was made in Birmingham by John Millward Banks and dates to 1894. John Millward Banks established his business in Birmingham in 1863 and produced a wide range of silverware for domestic and personal use of consistently high quality, much of it sold through his London showroom. He died in 1911 and the business was carried on by his son into the late 1920s.

Condition is very good, with no damage to the pierced body and rim and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The dish is 11.8cm / 4.6ins from top to bottom, 10.5cm / 4.1ins across and stands 3.2cm / 1.2ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 50.8g / 1.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter u for 1894 and the J.M.B makers' mark for John Millward Banks.
